Design Within Reach For artist Mike Perry, DIY isn’t a hobby, its a philosophy. When Mike Perry was a kid growing up in Kansas City, Missouri, he would pack a bag full of painting supplies and set off on all-day hikes across the plains, where he would dream of having a studio just like the one he’s sitting in this morning. The sprawling space in Crown Heights, Brooklyn (which he shares with his girlfriend, photographer Anna Wolf), has 20-foot ceilings and high windows that, on sunny days like this, flood the space with light. The day before, he put up a homemade, reflective mobile and the constellation it’s casting on the concrete floor is the current obsession of the couple’s dog, Bass, an Airedale Terrier/Otterhound mix.
