Nesting Works

Thursday, July 23, 2009  7-10pm

Design Within Reach: Tools for Living is proud to host Nesting Works a charity event to benefit Housing Works. DWR: Tools for Living has invited

Claw Money, West One, Aaron Meshon, Mike Perry, Alison Riley, Travis Cain, David Zachary and Heidi Kenney eight artists from different backgrounds including graffiti, illustration and industrial design to embellish sets of blank Matryoshka nesting dolls. Join us at the opening celebration on July 23 to see the varied and inspiring results of this artistic challenge.

The eight nesting doll sets will be auctioned off by Housing Works (www.housingworks.org) to support their work as the largest community-based AIDS

service organization in the US. Founded in 1990, Housing Works has provided lifesaving services such as medical and mental health support, meals, job training, drug treatment, HIV prevention, education and social support to more than 20,000 homeless and low income New Yorkers living with HIV and AIDS.

Belvedere vodka cocktails and crudités will be served inside the store, and the Treats Truck (www.treatstruck.com) will be parked outside with amazing baked goods for sale.

RSVP by July 21 to tflsoho@dwr.com

NEW YORK, NY July 2009: (capsule), the men’s trade show where 75 designers will debut their SS2010 collections in NYC, will present a temporary concept space open to the public called “Means of Production” on July 19-21. The event will showcase the idea

of community and commerce, as creative minds set up shop in a raw space on the ground floor of The Ludlow, one of the Lower East Side’s newest and most innovative apartment buildings. Means of Production will be an experiential gallery where visitors can

participate in creating culture and memories. The three day event, designed to examine the methods of making art, will showcase illustrators, craftsmen, musicians and designers in the act of producing.

Means of Production is curated by BBlessing, the L.E.S.-based boutique and clothing label, along with BPMW- the producers of (capsule) and Evident Records, a Chinatown based boutique record label. Sponsors of the event are Palladium Boots, Canon, AMP energy and The Ludlow NYC.
